WHL Release Exhibition Schedule (Edit:Friday)

It has been pretty quiet around here lately. I'm taking a good portion of the summer off from this blog, but I will try to post something If any major news comes out like the CHL Import Draft next Wednesday. I still want to try and post my Annual Arm-Chair GM scouting report before the NHL Draft Tomorow (which is not going to happen, this weekend sometimes.)

Sunday -  02/09/2012 -  P.G vs Medicine Hat -  11:00 (Edm Tourney)
Sunday - 09/09/2012 - Lethbridge @ Medicine Hat - 6:00 HOME GAME
Wednesday - 12/09/2012 - Medicine Hat @ Lethbridge - 7:00
Saturday - 15/09/2012 - Medicine Hat vs Red Deer - 7:30 (stettler)

Slightly Old News
Alex Theriau was not signed by the Dallas Stars so he will be eligible to go back into the draft on Friday.

Edit:Didn't get selected in the draft Alex Theriau is now a free agent. His chances of coming back to the Tigers just went up.

Willie Desjardins was moved to the Stars AHL Affiliate the Texas Stars as thier Head Coach.

Hunter Shinkaruk was selected for the 2012 Russia/Canada Challange. This event replaced the Team Canada Summer Development Camp for the world junoirs.

Darren Helm re-signed with Detroit (4 year 8.5 million dollar deal) I think 90% of the hockey world would consider that a steal.

Edit
Their have been a few comments that have been getting stuck in the spam filter, including a pretty newsworthy comment about Parkkonen.

Patrik Parkkonen
I completely missed this but Patrik Parkkonen has Signed with Porin Assat of the Finnish elite league. He signed a 2 year contract in early June. The Tigers blueline depth is now looking a little inexperienced with Parkkonen going overseas and Mckay heading off to school.

Defensive Depth Chart
Alex Theriau(20??)  Busenius(19)
Becker(18)  Lewington(18)
Jenson(17) xxx

This means the Tigers will be able to draft 2 new euros through the Euro Draft.

Hurley and one other forward I think are on the chopping block. Create a bit of room up there as we have lots of talent waiting, and get a deal on an experienced dman

I agree i have heard rumblings the Hurley is not very well liked in the locker room so i would think he is on his way out to get a veteran dman

Hurley was who I thought because we got Doty, who seems to be more physical. We also have Kessey, I was not sure if we really needed Hurley or if we could play someone like Broadhead who is young and still tough. But if Hurley is not well liked, I think it just solidifies that he is on his way out. I hope he can help out another team, he is physical and fulfills his role well.

The problem with Hurley is he is so use to the Ice trap style and it kinda ruined his offensive touch

Agree completely! Could be a good power forward but seems reluctant to get offensive

Dieno should be moved as well or dropped, he isn't that productive and played on the lower lines......the Tigers need to be careful because they don't want to be a team that gets very old and then all of the sudden loses half of its roster

You are right, we should dump a 19 year old or two. Depending on the talent of the young guys you wonder if there are not a few 19 year olds on the line.

-you keep valk for the offensive touch
-you keep bredo for best defensive forward/leadership/minutes he can log on PK
-McKay will be gone regardless either school or the fact we can replace him offensively or defensively with a better rookie
-Leier is on the bubble he is hot/cold and doesn't seem the pest he was in his first year, if he doesn't perform in training camp id trade him or drop him
-Hurley is now expendable because of Doty, Doty is a bigger tougher meaner version of Hurley
-Doty is going to be a Tigers favourite, he is the definition of mean rough hockey, i have watched him for 2 years now and when he is on the ice everyone is afraid and not taking runs at his team mates, he will allow all the dangler forwards such as Valk, Hunter, Labelle all do their magic without having a Dman trying to run them
Dieno- is a fourth line very hot/cold scorer he could easily be replaced by Penner

Ideally it will be
Shinkaruk Bredo Penner
Euro forward Valk Koules
Labelle Hart Cox
Kessy Doty Hurley or Leier
with rotating in Broadhead and one or two other rookies

Theriau Busenius
Becker Lewington
Jenson Stanton
Euro Dman Rookie

In defence i think Theriau could be expendable for the fact their might be way better dman then him released i would also think that Becker might get traded for an upgrade

Goalies: Bunz could come back because the Oilers goaltending is so stacked in the minors other than that i see split time between Cameron and Dawson/the 16 that impressed last year

Goaltending will be the weakest area for the tigers this year by far if Bunz doesn't come back

I wore a letter in the dressing room last season and I'm not sure where all of the negative comments on Hurley are coming from. All I can say from being an insider is that there were no issues with Hurley. Actually-he was well liked by everyone. Just wanted to set the record straight on that.

Deleted a couple comments to prevent the conversation from taking on a he said/she said type direction.

Nice that is set straight. Hate seeing a good guy getting a bad wrap based on hear-say!! Hope Hurley was not affected by hearing or reading any comments. Good physical player who will be tough to play just like last season!

Theriau came here Jan 2011 with a bad hip, played a year an a half hurt. Never complained once!!! Did what Dallas and Tigers wanted and played hurt.
Major hip surgery, and still managed to be Top defensive Player of the Month twice since being here. These types are players are hard to come by. He didn't play all year on the stud ice that Bettauer and Konan did with Etem and Shinkaruk. Pretty sure when he comes back, you will see a great skating defenceman again that he was ealrier in his Dub career that had management trade for him.
Don't see him going anywhere as an "expendable player". Leadership qualities are well proven.
